In an effort to try and improve their team The Los Angeles Dongers held tryouts at Geronimo's Little League field. Based on how terrible the Dongers are, we knew that Geronimo had a shot. However, we secretly hoped that they wouldn't recognize his talent so that The Padres could snatch him up in a few more years. Here he is waiting for the team to arrive.
They are really hurting for players. They are bringing back some former players from decades ago. I'm guessing that Mike would be the only one to correctly identify #12.
Andre Ethier and Blake Dewitt decided to make an appearance. Andre was very happy to see a camera pointed in his direction.
Geronimo realized early on that The Dongers don't know much about baseball, and grew bored of their nonsense.
Eventually he decided to lay down for a possible nap. (On a side note, Brad Ausmus is also wearing #12. That makes 2 players wearing the same number. No wonder that team is holding tryouts at a little league.)
The next station was headed up by this guy who I had never heard of, Rudy Law. He taught base running. Of all the players, I think he actually tried the hardest to teach the kids something. He then told the kids to run out a double, but since Geronimo is wearing Padre gear he was inspired to take third.
Next up were Kuroda and Fernando Valenzuela, which seemed like a great pairing since they both brought translators. Needless to say, there wasn't much talking done.
Fernando and Hiroki were supposed to be giving instruction on pitching, which meant throwing more grounders to the kids.
He didn't want to leave the last station. The whole tryout took a little over an hour. By the time it was done Law had been cut from the team and Kuroda was demoted to the minors. They loaded up the team bus with a new pitching staff and a couple of position players. They offered Geronimo 25 million dollars to play for one year, but his agent advised him to turn it down. All in all, it was a great day(even if it was the Dongers). Geronimo had a great time and got a free hat out of the deal.
